I don't know if your childhood was like mine but right about now I'd be really enjoying summer. Playing in the sprinklers, riding bikes in our 20 foot driveway, falling on my head from the neighbors monkey bars (trying to hang from my feet like I saw that acrobat do). Mom heads to K Mart and I tag along. Everything is perfect until I'm accosted at the front doors by those wretched signs that say "Back to School Sale". Suddenly I realize that it is coming in a couple of weeks. I get a sick stomach immediately.
Well... a "few" years later and nothing has changed....(except I would not attempt to hang by my feet anymore--that lesson only took one attempt to learn well). I come home from work and need to run to Target and suddenly there they are... BACK TO SCHOOL signs. I get that same old sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I'm not even going back and I still get it. My nieces show me their school supplies and I try to smile. "That'll be so nice to use at school". I pretend that there aren't 12 long grueling years ahead of them.
Believe it or not though... there are kids that like to go to school (shocker, I know). In fact they want to go so badly but they can't. Not being in school means never learning to read and never being able to be employed.
So, for all the kids of all ages I beg your forgiveness. I'm about to do the unforgivable. The Month of August will be a "Back to School" theme for LittleGemsUSA. We will have 2 charities this month.
From August 1-15 we will focus on NYC and give half of our profits to The Fashion Foundation. Their founder Amanda left a career in the fashion industry to sell clothing to raise money for school supplies for needy kids.
From August 16 -31 we will focus on Love Alive International in Rwanda and the kids there that cannot go to school because they cannot afford the uniforms or required supplies.
I hope you will find it in your heart to help out some kids in need even if I am destroying your last few precious moments of a glorious summer.
Hope you enjoyed this! The only reason we exist is to raise money for women and children in need. Please check out our store, pick up a LittleGem for yourself and #sparkle4HOPE
